Rooster Teeth Raises over $1.1 Million USD #ForTheKids

With Game Day behind us, it’s time to take a look at one of Extra Life’s biggest supporters: The Rooster Teeth community! The RT team rose to all of the challenges presented by the pandemic and managed to put on a fantastic 12-hour show that raised $1,111,894 USD for the kids. Just… wow! All of that money goes directly to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas to help sick and injured kids. Children’s hospitals all across the United States and Canada desperately need due to the pandemic putting 60% of them in danger of being unable to meet their financial obligations.

How did the Rooster Teeth folks achieve this outstanding success? They banded together to do a 12-hour stream on Game Day, November 7, 2020, continued fundraising all week long through their RTTV platform with interspersed Extra Life events and solo streams and capped it all off with another 12-hour stream on November 14. Over the course of the week, we were introduced to characters like Philip W. Pickles, situations like the Super Soaker milk/Kool-Aid/paintball station, and so much more. The entire week inspired fan arts and crafts of all kinds.

One of the most amazing parts in all of this was Chad Johnson’s daughter, Kiera, making a $20 USD donation to Extra Life. The Rooster Teeth team challenged their community to match that donation, and the community came through in a BIG way. Over the course of 10 minutes, Rooster Teeth received over $65,000 USD in donations. The video of Kiera reacting to the news is absolutely a highlight of the entire Rooster Teeth stream that you should not miss!

Rooster Teeth has been one of Extra Life’s biggest partners for years now. They have raised so much money that Dell Children’s was able to build out their facilities to include an outdoor area for kids to go into and get the mental health benefits of being outside.

In the past, they worked to provide Dell Children’s money needed to expand their specialized mental health options for children. This year they’re working with Dell Children’s on their HERE campaign which combines three specialized services that have so far been outsourced from the hospital:

  1. Cardiovascular and Heart Surgery
  2. Neurosciences
  3. Oncology/Hematology (cancer and blood diseases)

They are currently building a new four-story, 161,000-square-foot facility connected to Dell Children’s, which will develop efficient services in these areas alongside critical support services and specialty clinics.  What this means is kids who have had to leave central Texas to receive specialized care in these areas will now get to stay HERE in their homes, completely alleviating travel and boarding stresses.

They have helped uncountable numbers of kids with their efforts and we really can never thank them enough.

But we will say it one more time: Thank you so, so much.
