Rooster Teeth Healing Garden at Dell Children’s

May 21, 2018 marks the very first day patients will be seen inside the brand new inpatient/outpatient mental health unit at Dell Children’s Medical Center. The Grace Grego Maxwell Mental Health Unit complete with the Rooster Teeth Healing Garden is 100% funded by philanthropy and is the first of its kind in Central Texas providing comprehensive mental health services for children and teens all under one roof.  The 24 inpatient bed unit also includes an intensive outpatient program and the Texas Child Study Center, an outpatient clinic will run in partnership with The University of Texas. In a dedicated pediatric-focused environment, child and adolescent psychiatrists will treat conditions like depression, suicidal ideation and bipolar disorder.

“This new model for coordinated care will allow us to diagnose and treat children with mental needs before, during and after a crisis,” said Dr. Sonia Krishna, Dell Children’s child and adolescent psychiatrist. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as many as one in five children under the age of 17 has a diagnoseable mental disorder.

When Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s Extra Life partner, Rooster Teeth, learned of this initiative at Dell Children’s over two years ago, they knew they wanted to support it in a big way. As plans came together, Rooster Teeth’s, Jack Pattillo and Caiti Ward committed to $3 Million in support of this unit over 3 years through their unparalleled Extra Life efforts. This particular cause being one with a very special place in their hearts, Jack and Caiti not only made a bold, meaningful and public commitment to support the unit’s funding, but also to lead the conversation on mental health within their massive Rooster Teeth community of followers. Gamers are not creeps in their parent’s basements. Gamers are coming together all around our nation to make a difference through Extra Life and the impact they are having is immense. Rooster Teeth is a leading example of this and Dell Children’s could not be more proud to call them our partner.

In honor of this incredible partnership, Dell Children’s Medical Center has named the Rooster Teeth Healing Garden as part of this unit. The garden will feature a basketball court, a seated area covered by canopy, and some actual garden beds where patients will grow fruits and veggies as they enjoy time outdoors during their healing process. This space is private, and exclusively for patients inside the unit. The naming represents the heartfelt dedication of Rooster Teeth’s Extra Life efforts as they continue to break records year after year. It is because of these incredible accomplishments, children will have the opportunity to live their best lives for generations to come. Words could never express our gratitude.
